For several years cadets have represented the Coast Guard by participating in homeland security related research projects at national labs throughout the country. These competitive programs give cadets invaluable hands-on experience with cutting edge technology and world class facilities. Those accepted spend five weeks at one of the national laboratories during the summer before their first class year. Cadets in these programs work closely with lab researchers and attend briefings and tours on DHS and DOD funded research. Many continue their research when they return to the Academy.
CDR Richard Roncone Retires  Friday, August 15, 2008
After more than 20 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, CDR Rocone retired on July 18.  At the Academy CDR Roncone was an assistant professor in the Department of Management and most recently was the Chief Information Officer at the Academy.

Since the hardcover version originally published in June, 2006, So Others May Live has been featured on the Weather Channel’s "How Weather Changed History” to an audience of over 21 million viewers, awarded best book by the Foundation for Coast Guard History naming it the Heritage Award winner for the year, selected for the Commandant of the Coast Guard's Professional Reading List (2007-08), and was the International Runner-Up in the Boaters Writers International Writing Competition. This award-winning and inspiring title is now available in paperback.

CDR Joseph Vorbach III, '87, Retires  Friday, August 15, 2008

A member of the Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff for 13 years, CDR Vorbach was Associate Professor of International Relations.
